Explaining Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality is the new buzzword. It’s mere presence makes everything trendy and futuristic. It’s the next step for major social media companies such as Facebook and YouTube. In fact, it is promised to be the new media.

What is it?

Virtual Reality can refer to several things. One example includes a computer-simulated environment in which the user can freely interact. It also refers to a virtual reality video which allows you to interact and freely move around within it. Though the experience is eye-opening, we have not yet arrived at “true” virtual reality which would require the viewer be able to fully interact and immerse themselves in the environment through sight, sound, and touch. However, the future of virtual reality looks promising and we are moving closer to capturing the full potential of the technology in gaming and video.

Virtual Reality Technology

I’m really excited to try these VR Headsets and technology. There are so many options available for such a new technology. Examples that you may be interested in are the Oculus Rift; Gear VR; HTC Vive; and Playstation VR.

  • Oculus Rift

“Rift is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Whether you’re stepping into your favorite game, watching an immersive VR movie, jumping to a destination on the other side of the world, or just spending time with friends in VR, you’ll feel like you’re really there.”

  • Gear VR

“Whenever you want to enter virtual reality, just take your GALAXY smartphone, slide it in the Gear VR, and you’re in. It’s that simple.”

  • HTC Vive

“Experience room-scale gameplay with precise motion tracking and natural controller gestures. Get a glimpse of the real world when you need it thanks to the front-facing camera. Open apps and games without taking off your headset. This is fully immersive VR.”

  • PlayStation VR

“Discover a new world of unexpected gaming experiences with PlayStation®VR. Redefine your expectations of immersion in gaming with moments so intense your intuition takes over. Step into incredible virtual worlds and overcome new challenges in extraordinary ways.”

What will it do for the future?

The idea of virtual reality isn’t new, so what has made it resurge in popularity lately? The slew of new products is one factor. Another is that it promises to improve every part of our lives, similar to how the creation of the smartphone made a revolution years ago. It will put you right in the game by getting you to those front-row seats at the game. Or, finally be able to swim a corral reef. There are currently apps that let you virtually try on clothes before shopping. Called the “Final Platform”, virtual reality will open up doors we didn’t know where there.
